Description

These instruments are also called Lowland or Reel Pipes. My Border Pipes have a nice low pressure, and are slightly louder than uilleann pipe volume, but not too loud for playing with fiddles. The chanter is driven by a cane reed designed to bring out the crisp tones of the chanter. The chanter has the usual cross-fingered notes including high G#, Fnat, and Cnat. Drone configuration is typically Alto, Tenor, Bass, but can be anything else you might require. Drone reeds are composites custom made by Pipe Dreams.

We make our chanter tops with a split stock with reed protection standard on all sets. It makes storing them away easier if the chanter can come out of the bag without damaging the reed. In addition, this makes it possible to plug a border chanter in with our smallpipes if travelling with just one set. Also, some customers like to order a border chanter along with their smallpipes, choosing to add the border drones at a later date.
