Scottish Smallpipes in Bois De Rose and Boxwood
-with integrated drone shut-off Mount (in "on" position - news) -
Sound Sample - Smallpipes - A (1.1 MB)
Our Scottish Smallpipe chanters are driven by a cane reed developed to be robust without being hard to blow. The drones have composite reeds custom made by Pipe Dreams. All chanters are tied in using split stocks with built in reed protectors. We find our A-D combination sets, with four drones and two chanters, very useful out in the wide piping world, but we can make sets of just one key with three drones upon request.
Three of the four drones on the Combination A-D Sets can tune to an additional useful note. This makes for a remarkable amount of options when it comes to drone tunings. Bass D can tune up to E. Tenor A can tune down to G. Tenor D can tune up to E as well (a lovely "alto" sound with the two As). Also, any other special drone tuning needs can be accomodated.

The chanter on the right is Bois De Rose. The chanter on the left is African Blackwood. The Bois De Rose will darken even more.
